Mallorca is a beautiful island with rugged mountains and hidden beaches, dotted with citrus groves and picturesque villages. We visited with our son last Spring and compiled this list of some of our favorite things that we did:
1. TAKE A DIP AT CALA PI
A steep staircase leads down to this lovely beach surrounded by pine trees. (Leave your stroller at the top.) Fine white sand and very shallow turquoise water make it perfect for children.
2. STOP FOR LUNCH AT CASA MANOLO IN SES SALINES
Watch your head – hanging from the ceiling are dozens of giant hams. Come to this family-run restaurant for the fantastic local atmosphere and stay for the fresh seafood cooked in salt and other local specialties.
3. RIDE THE OLD WOODEN TRAIN FROM PALMA TO SOLLER
Take the scenic route on this historic electric train that connects the city of Palma with the small town of Soller – winding through the mountains and tunnels of the Serra de Tramuntana.
4. VISIT THE PALMA CATHEDRAL
One of the most famous Gothic buildings in Europe, the Palma de Mallorca Cathedral or ‘La Seu’ as it’s known, is fronted by a lake with a spouting fountain — always a hit with our son.
5. ENJOY A WATERFRONT DINNER AT PORTIXOL
This chic restaurant in the hip Palma hotel of the same name has a beautiful terrace with a fantastic Mediterranean view, excellent food and a great wine list. Another sleeping baby strolled up as we were leaving at 10:30PM (That’s how they do it in Spain)
